Black and Orange Spirit Day! 🧡🖤🧡
Tuesday, October 31st will be black and orange day at Boyden School! Students who wish to participate are welcome to wear these colors. Please no Halloween costumes. Thank you for your cooperation!
Bus Evacuation
Discussions about school safety continued last week as the students participated in bus evacuation drills. They did a wonderful job and I couldn't be more proud of how attentive and engaged they were!
Curriculum:
Fundations
Last week in Fundations the children learned about the letters d and s. We also practiced reading the sight words "it" and "in". Our color of the week was pink!
As a fun Friday project we enjoyed making snakes for the letter s!
Math
In math we began our second unit in the Bridges curriculum. This unit will continue to focus on the numbers 5 and 10, and last week we practiced showing different number combinations that make 5 and 10 using cubes and ten frames.
Reader's Workshop
Last week in Reader's Workshop we continued to explore our nonfiction "learn about the world books". We learned that readers can often find pages that make them say "wow!" that they would want to share with someone else. The students enjoyed marking their wow! pages with sticky notes then sharing them with a partner. At the end of the week we read some old favorite story books such as The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Carrot Seed as we transition into the next "bend" in our We Are Readers unit.
Writer's Workshop
Writer's Workshop was all about labeling last week! We learned that a label is a word for what something is, and practiced labeling pictures, our classroom, and even me! At this point in the year the children are labeling objects with the beginning sound. Soon we will start to include ending sounds and eventually middle sounds too!

Friday was a beautiful day to be outside! Two Room 115 friends had a great time swinging into the weekend! 😊
