Kindergarten Field Trip
A friendly reminder that the kindergarten classes will be traveling to Franklin Park Zoo on Thursday, May 29th! Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered their time to chaperone our trip. Due to an overwhelming interest, chaperones were picked using a lottery system. I'm happy to share that Mrs. Donovan, Mrs. Turner, and Mrs. Withrow will be joining us!

Tony Chestnut!
On Friday Boyden School held their first annual talent show! We enjoyed watching students from the 4th and 5th grades perform various acts which included singing, dancing, tell jokes, and playing a wide range of musical instruments! The kindergartners kicked off the show by performing Tony Chestnut, a song that is well known around Boyden and a kindergarten rite of passage! Those who are able to attend can look forward to an encore performance at Wednesday's music concert!

ABC Countdown
Our ABC Countdown will continue in the week ahead with more awesome activities. Please see below for the theme of each day!

Lots of fun was had last week as we celebrated the letters C-G with chalk, dance, Elephant and Piggie, Friendship, and game days!

Curriculum Update:

Fundations
Last week in Fundations we learned to read the sight words this and that. We also continued to practice building our reading fluency by chunking or "scooping" sentences, as well as putting words in the correct order to make sentences that look and sound right!

Reader's Workshop
Last week in Reader's Workshop we continued module (unit) 8 titled From Plant to Plate, and worked hard to answer the essential question: "How do plants become food?" We enjoyed reading the books Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt by Kate Messner, and Earthworms by Lisa J. Amstutz, which helped us build a deeper understanding of this unit's theme. The children also continued to make and check predictions, identify the central idea of a text, and compare and contrast information.

Math
In math we continue to practice solving addition and subtraction story (word) problems. We also reviewed the concept of estimating by using popsicle sticks!

Science
It has been an exciting time for science in Room 115! After the April break we welcomed five furry caterpillars into our classroom. Since then, we have enjoyed watching them grow, and last week we were thrilled to discover that they formed their chrysalises! On Wednesday we transferred them to their pavilion where they will soon emerge as butterflies! 🦋

The students got an up-close view of the newly formed chrysalises before we transferred them to their new home.

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn, grow, and play in the wonderful world that is K? 🍎📖🚌
