Parent/Teacher Conferences
Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with me over the past two weeks for Parent/Teacher Conferences. I enjoyed getting to speak with so many families about the transition to K, and all of the wonderful things your children have accomplished during our first few months together! Although formal confereces are not available again until the spring, please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you have about your child's progress. Thank you!

Quiet Time Towels
Your child's quiet time towel was sent home on Friday for washing. Please return your child's clean towel to school tomorrow for Quiet Time. Thank you!

Curriculum Update:

Pumpkin Fun!
Tuesday was a spectacular time for science and math as we participated in some pumpkin fun! We began our exploration by learning about the parts of a pumpkin and the pumpkin life cycle. All of this learning culminated in an exciting activity that involved opening and exploring a real pumpkin!

Seed counting was another exciting (and gooey!) part of our pumpkin exploration. We were shocked to learn that our pumpkin had 584 seeds! That's A LOT of seeds!

We also enjoyed reading Spookly the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano. We used this seasonal story to discuss the story elements of character and setting, then created our own square Spooklys!

Fundations
Last week in Fundations the children learned about the letters e and r. We also practiced reading the sight words "if" and "on". Our color of the week was black!

As a fun Friday project we created our own colorful elephants after reading the book Elmer the Patchwork Elephant by David McKee.

Math
Last week in math we continued to identfiy, write, and build numbers 0-10. The students were introduced to a new learning tool called a number rack, and used them to show numbers 6-10 as five and "some more".

Reader's Workshop
In Reader's Workshop we continue to enjoy old familiar stories such as The Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Carrot Seed, and Caps for Sale. We are learning to retell these stories by using exact character words, character voices, and making sure each page we retell matches the picture.

Writer's Workshop
In Writer's Workshop the children transitioned from show and tell writing about special objects to show and tell writing about special places! We continue to develop our drawing and labeling skills through this writing, and will soon start creating books with multiple pages!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn, grow, and play in the wonderful world that is K! 🍎🚌📖
