Guest Readers Wanted!
Did you know that March is National Reading Month? We celebrated our love of reading all month long in Room 115, and would like to open our door to parents, grandparents, neighbors, or siblings who would like to share their love of reading as well! Below you will find a link to sign up to be a guest reader in our classroom. On the day of, please bring a book of your choice to read aloud OR contact me ahead of time and I'll happily select one for you! In order to ensure everyone gets an opportunity, please sign up for only one slot. Curriculum Update:
Fundations
Last week in Fundations we learned the sight words our and said. The class was also continued to practice reading words with the digraphs sh, ch, th, wh, and ck.
In Reader's Workshop we began Module (unit) 7 last week. This unit is titled: Zoom In! and asks the essential question: "What can I learn when I look closely?" We enjoyed reading the stories Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Pena and Not a Box by Antoinette Portis. These books provided us with practice retelling a story, making connections, and identifying the story elements of character, setting, and events.
In math the students continued to develop their understanding of number combinations as we spent the week learning the "friends of 10" or the numbers that, when added together, equal ten. Stay tuned for a picture of our classroom bulletin board which features a spring themed craft that showcases this new learning!
Writer's Workshop
In Writer's Workshop the students were introduced to a new type of writing known as narrative writing! In this writing unit the children will tell about a real life event in a three page story that consists of a beginning, middle, and end. In the week ahead we will work together to write a narrative story about when our chairs went missing on April Fools' Day! 😂
