A Peek At Out Week!

Sunday, April 30, 2023

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend despite the gray, wet weather. It was so nice to have all of the children back in Room 115 last week as we jumped right back into our schedule and routines. It's hard to believe there are less than 40 days of Kindergarten left! 😲

Important Dates:

May 12th:
Early Release Day
12:25pm Dismissal

May 29th:
No School
Memorial Day

Announcements:

Welcome Marlie!
We are SO excited to be welcoming a new member to the Room 115 family! Our new student, Marlie, will be joining us in the week ahead and we couldn't be more thrilled. Welcome Marlie! 😊

Curriculum Update:

Fundations
Last week in Fundations we practiced reading the sight word or and also reviewed the word for. We also continued to practice words with the digraphs sh, th, ch, wh, ck.

Math
In math we learned more about measurement! The students were introduced to the terms "heavy" and "light" and used this vocabulary to compare the weights of different objects using balance scales. This is one of our most engaging math units thus far and the class is really enjoying it!

Math work stations helped develop our independent measuring skills!

Reader's Workshop
In Reader's Workshop we began Unit 4 which focuses on empowering students to become avid readers! We learned that avid readers are those that cannot stop reading, and we practiced what it means to look and sound like an avid reader during our Read to Self time.

The avid readers above are busy at work! They also enjoyed participating in book clubs last week which enabled them to discuss things they noticed while reading with their peers.

Writer's Workshop
We also began a new unit in Writer's Workshop last week which focuses on persuasive writing. The class learned that we can use our writing to change the world, and worked hard to identify problems they would like to solve at home and school. Through posters, letters, songs, and petitions, the students provided many reasons why people should stop litering, keep the classroom clean, pick up their dirty laundry, and use kind words. I look forward to watching them solve many new problems using their writing in the week ahead!

Ending our week with a little fun in the sun! 🌞

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn, grow, and play in the wonderful world that is K! 💗📖🍎
