ABC Countdown
This week will kick off our ABC Countdown to summer! The fun will begin on Tuesday, May 9th with the letter A and "Anything But a Backpack" day. Please have your child bring their Boyden folder, lunch, etc. in a creative container such as a gift bag, pillowcase, crate...anything but a backpack! Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions!
WPS Summer Learning Program
Are you looking to keep your child's academic skills sharp and avoid the summer slide? Walpole Public Schools offers a summer learning program that will help do just that. Please click here if you are interested in learning more or enrolling your child!
May the 4th Be With You!
Geometry and Star Wars came together on Thursday as we had a great time celebrating May 4th!
Curriculum Update:
Fundations
Last week in Fundations we learned to read the sight word out. We also practiced building our reading fluency by chunking or "scooping" sentences instead of reading word by word.
Math
Last week in math we reviewed our teen numbers by using double ten frames. We played fun games such as Double Top Draw (similiar to "war") and played an engaging game of Capture the Number. In the week ahead we will practice solving addition and subtraction story problems.
Reader's Workshop
In Reader's Workshop last week we revisited our reading super powers. We reflected on which super powers we use most often, and those we should use more frequently. The class continues to apply their super powers/strategies independently when reading from their book bins during Read-to-Self time.
Science
It was an exciting time for science in our classroom last week as we got a special delivery, caterpillars! We are having a great time observing our new "pets" and look forward to watching them grow and change over the next few weeks!
