Curriculum Update:

Fundations:
Last week in Fundations we practiced reading the sight word little. The children were also introduced to words with digraphs, or two letters that make one brand new sound. The letters sh, th, ch, wh, and ck are all digraphs that are introduced and practiced in Kindergarten.

To go along with our sight word of the week, the class enjoyed reading the story Little Quack by Lauren Thompson. After listening to the story, the children then wrote about their favorite duck character and completed their own paper ripping project. Paper ripping projects are great for stengthening fine motor skills and dexterity!

Math
It was a busy week in math as we continued to learn about 3D solid figures! We started the week by learning to draw 3D solids, which was a challenging but fun activity. We also played an engaging game called Guess My Rule their the children had to look at many different groups of figures and guess how they were sorted. This week we will take a break from geometry and circle back to practice our teen numbers!

Reader's Workshop
Fundations and Reader's Workshop aligned nicely last week as the students were introduced to the concept of digraphs in both curriculums. While in Fundations the students were reading isolated words with the letters sh, th, ch, wh, and ck, in Reader's Workshop they were reading them in context as we enjoyed the new decodable book, Mabels Chips. In addition to learning about digraphs, we also practiced using our slider power to read more words quickly, or in a "snap".

Writer's Workshop
We kicked our "How To" writing into high gear last week as this unit of study will soon come to an end. During our lessons the children learned how to make comparisons to help their reader understand their writing even better. An example of a comparison some students used was, "walk slowly like a snail". The students were also shown how to write introductions to peak their reader's interested and get them excited to read their work. This week we will complete our "How To" until with a very special celebration. Stay tuned!

A Few Candids from the Week!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn, grow, and play in the wonderful world that is K!
