It is important to note that there is no cost for families due to the generosity of Boyden's PAC. More details about our trip will be sent home in the upcoming weeks.

 Library Tomorrow
A friendly reminder that our class visits the library/media center on Mondays. Please have your child return their book so that they are able to select a new one. Please also return your child's clean quiet time towel as well. Thanks so much for all of your help! :)

May the 4th Be With You!
When May 4th falls during your math unit on geometry making shape baby yodas is a must! We hope you enjoyed your day as much as we did!

Curriculum Update:

This Week's Sight Words: this, that

Reader's Workshop
Last week in Reader's Workshop we continued to learn about what it means to be an avid reader! We learned that one way avid readers enjoy books is by sharing them with friends and having what we call reading playdates. During a reading playdate students share their favorite books with one another by playing pretend or acting out the story, playing school, or even playing games with the text like Spot the Sight Word!

The students above share books from their book bags as they engage in reading playdates.

Math
In math we began a unit on Geometry and explored two dimensional shapes. During our lessons we learned and discussed the names and attributes of circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, and hexagons. This week we will begin to explore three dimensional, or solid shapes!

Math centers were a great way to practice identifying, sorting, and building 2 dimensional shapes. We even incorporated our dramatic play pizza stand by making shape pizzas!

Writer's Workshop
Last week in Writer's Workshop we continued to work on our opinion pieces and brainstorm ways to make the world a better place! In addition to creating posters and signs, the students were also introduced to how they could share their opinions and persuade others by writing books and letters.

Science
Our butterfly unit is in full swing and we were excited to watch our caterpillars continue to grow and even form their chrysalises last week! Click here to watch a time lapse video of this exciting change (the caterpillar in the front right is the easiest to see).

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!
