A Peek At Our Week!

Sunday, November 28, 2021

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Although last week was a short one, it was still filled with LOTS of fun! Please enjoy a few of the highlights below.

Announcements:

Library Tomorrow!
A friendly reminder that our class visits the library/media center on Mondays. Please have your child return their book so that they are able to select a new one. Please also return your child's clean quiet time towel as well. Thanks so much for all of your help! :)

Curriculum:

Reader's Workshop
In Reader's Workshop we continued to read and recite the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty. As a final activity the students participated in the 1st annual Humpty Dumpty egg drop! The children were given their own Humpty (aka a hard boiled egg) and various materials such as newspaper, felt, tissue paper, bubble wrap, and cotton balls to protect their egg during a "great fall"! We discovered that bubble wrap was the most effective at keeping the eggs from cracking when they were dropped from the playground equipment!

The class also enjoyed making their own Humpty Dumpty craft!

Math
Last week in math we continued to practice our counting and number writing skills as the students rotated through fun, turkey themed activities! This week we will begin our unit on addition!

Social Studies
In Social Studies last week our Let's Find Out magazine was all about the balloons which can be seen in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade! To extend our learning, we read the Book Balloons Over Broadway by Melissa Sweet. This true story is about Tony Sarg, a puppeteer who set the wheels in motion to make the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade the one we know and love today. After reading, the class recreated one of the first parade balloons (a tiger!) and drew and wrote about a balloon they would like to make for the parade!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!
