Curriculum:

Reader's Workshop
Last week in Reader's Workshop we continued to enjoy nursery rhymes and practiced reading and reciting Humpty Dumpty! During our mini lessons we learned that there are three ways to read a book, you can read the words, you can read the pictures, or you can retell the story. We practiced implementing these three skills during Read to Self time. We also continued to build our reading stamina and are now able to read independently for 5 minutes!

The students above are busy looking for sight words in their nursery rhyme books during Read to Self time.

Fundations
In Fundations last week we learned about the letters h, k, and l! We also practice reading the sight words "had" and "did".

Lions were a perfect Creation Station activity for the letter L! Each student practiced following multi-step directions and strengthened their fine motor skills as they completed this center activity last week,

Math
In math we continued to practice writing our numbers! Since direct instruction on how to form all the numbers from 0-10 has now been provided, the children spent time applying their handwriting skills as they completed various math center activities. One of the most popular centers was the iPad center. The children did a great job practicing their number formation using the Letter School app.

Science
Last week was a busy one in science as we continued to learn about fall changes. At the beginning of the week we enjoyed a Mystery Doug video which posed the question, "Why don't all trees lose their leaves in fall?" We then went on a nature walk around Boyden School and observed which trees had or will lose their leaves and which ones will not. Click here if you would like to view this Mystery Doug video at home!

On Friday we read the story The Very Last Leaf by Stef Wade. After enjoying this fictional tale about a leaf who is afraid to fall from his tree, the class carefully sequenced the events of the story and created their very own special leaf project!

Thanks SO much for stopping by to learn about all of the fun and exciting things happening in Room 202! I hope everyone has a wonderful week and a very Happy Thanksgiving!
