Curriculum:

This Week's Sight Words: had, did

Reader's Workshop
Last week in Reader's Workshop we continued our unit on nursery rhymes and practiced reading and reciting Little Miss Muffet. The students were excited to get their own Little Miss Muffet book to add to their book bags and read independently during Read to Self time. We are now up to 4 minutes of independent reading on our stamina chart! I couldn't be more pleased with the progress the student's are making!

The students above use sticky notes to identify the most important words that are needed to read familiar texts such as Harry the Dirty Dog. This activity accompanied a special lesson taught by Mrs. Miles!

Fundations
Last week in Fundations we learned about the letters P and J. We also read the sight words at and up! In addition to the Fundations parent update packet, this week I will also be sending home flashcards for all of the sight words that have been taught in class thus far. I encourage your child to practice their sight word flashcards frequently and keep them in a safe place at home.

Writer's Workshop
In Writer's Workshop we continued to perfect the pieces be created around our show and tell objects. To celebrate our hard work, the class enjoyed taking a "Gallery Walk" and seeing all of the beautiful writing that was done by their peers. In the week ahead we will shift our focus to writing about special places.

Math
The students continue to work hard in math as we practice our number writing. Last week we focused on the numbers 6-10 and even learned some fun rhymes for remembering how we form these numbers. Please see the number poems below!

6: Make a curve and then a loop. There are no tricks to make a six!
7: Left to right make a line that's straight, now slide down your seven looks great!
8: Make an "S" and do not wait, back to the top, that's an 8!
9: Make a loop and then a line, that's the way to make a 9!
10: Number 10 is a hero, make a 1 and then a 0!

On Friday the class put their number writing skills to the test as they complete an interactive Write the Room activity.

Happy Birthday Teddy Bears!
Celebrating the 119th birthday of the teddy bear was a great way to end our week! In addition to completing many teddy themed activities, we also enjoying reading the books Bear Counts and Corduroy.

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that in new in Room 202!
