Curriculum:

Last Week's Sight Word: have
This Week's Sight Word: from

Reader's Workshop
Last week in Reader's Workshop we read and recited the nursery rhyme Hickory Dickory Dock! We also discussed that strong reader's make connections to other books, media, or personal experiences they've had when reading. We call these text to text, text to media, and text to self connections.

The students above show off a Hickory Dickory Dock sequencing project they completed on Friday.

Fundations
In Fundations last week we learned about the letters v and w. We also practiced reading the sight word "have". Please be sure that your child spends a few minutes each night reviewing their sight word flashcards. I will be sending home another set of words before the winter break.

Making volcanos at the Creation Station was a great way to reinforce the sound of the letter V!

Math
In math we started Unit 7 which focuses on addition! We began our exploration by learning about the concept of joining, or putting groups together. This was followed by the introduction of the + and = signs. We will continue to practice adding and writing addition number sentences in class this week before we transition to subtraction.

We completed our very first math word problem in class last week! Word problems will soon become a part of our weekly routine.

Social Studies
In Social Studies last week we learned all about Hanukah! As part of our lessons we explored the origins and traditions associated with this very special holiday. Throughout the month of December we will continue to explore holidays that are celebrated by friends in our class, as well as people around the world. Please don't hesitate to let me know if there is a special holiday that your family celebrates. I would love to include it in this unit!

Please enjoy these flashback photos! I want to ensure that all of our Room 202 friends are included in this week's blog! :)

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!
