A Peek At Our Week!

Sunday, March 3, 2019
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! It sure seems like March is coming in a like a lion with the snow that is predicted for tonight and tomorrow. Yikes! Let's hope the saying is true and it goes out like a lamb!

Announcements:

Maternity Leave
It's hard to believe March is already here and my maternity leave is right around the corner! As Mr. Dearborn shared in his email on Friday, my maternity leave will officially begin on Monday, March 25th with my last day being Friday, March 23rd. I am thrilled to share that Mrs. Debbie Maw will be the long-term substitute during this time! Mrs. Maw had had many roles in the Walpole Public Schools for the past several years including being a first grade teacher, Instructional Support Professional, and has been a long-term substitute for other maternity leaves as well. I am excited to welcome Mrs. Maw into our classroom on March 20th so that she is able to meet the children and learn our routines. With the continued support of Mrs. Dacko, I know our class will be in great hands! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have!

Guest Readers!
Last week your child came home with a notice inviting family, friends, and siblings into our classroom to be a guest reader in honor of Read Across America month! Please be sure to send in your availability if you are interested in reading to our class!

Curriculum:

Literacy
Last week in literacy we read the story Bunny Time by Rick Walton. While reading this story we discussed the question, "What adventures do you have throughout the day?". We also were introduced to the new sight words: do, are, and that, and practiced the sound of the letter "H".

Math
Last week in math we began Topic 9 which focuses on composing and decomposing numbers to 10. We had a great time finding all the ways to make the number 4 and 5, and are looking forward to continuing this work with the numbers 6 and 7 this week!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
One exciting highlight of our week was celebrating the birthday of  the iconic children's book author, Dr. Seuss! We had a great time reading many Dr. Seuss stories and practicing our rhyming skills in preparation for the big day.

Self-selected Dr. Seuss themed centers were a great way for the children to practice number identification, addition, rhyming, and sight word reading skills!

Our class also celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday by participating in a school-wide "Read In"! It was so neat to see every student and teacher at Boyden School lining the halls and reading at the same time!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
