A Special Announcement

Dear Families,
I wanted to take a moment to share the exciting news that the Buchanio Family is expanding! My husband and I are thrilled to be expecting our second child, another little girl, in late March. While I have not made a formal announcement in class yet, your child may soon start to notice my growing belly. You are more than welcome to share this information with them at home! :)

Supplies
Thank you SO much for the very generous contributions of paper towels, wipes, tissues, and hand sanitizer that have been made to our classroom over the past several weeks! Due to your kindness our cabinets are well stocked and ready to take on the cold and flu season ahead. THANK YOU!!!

Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences begin this week and will be held on Wednesday, October 24th from 6:00-8:00PM, and Friday, October 26th from 1:00-3:00PM. Another round of night conferences will take place on Thursday, November 1st from 6:00-8:00PM. If you have not signed up for a conference please contact me directly as the conference scheduler on the Boyden website is now closed. I look forward to meeting with everyone soon!

Curriculum Update:

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the story Dig Dig Digging by Margaret Mayo. This story helped us answer the essential question, "How do machines help people work?". We also continued to review the sight words "to" and "a" as well as the letter "T'. In Fundations we learned about the letters "C" and "A".

Read, Write, Smell and Creation Station (with finger paints!) were two new activities that made their debut at Literacy Centers this week!
Math
In math we began a unit which explores numbers to 5. Last week the children did a wonderful job counting, writing, and representing the numbers 0, 1, and 2. On Friday the class had a great time playing the game Three Corners to help reinforce their recognition of these numbers. Discussing the rules of this game and how we played in class would be a great conversation starter at home!

Science
The beautiful weather has made it a spectacular time for science in Room 202! With the summer-like weather now behind us, our class has been enjoying learning about the changes we can observe in the fall.

After reading the book, We're Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger, the students had a great time looking for leaves of their own! We used our leaves to complete a 'Leaf Report' where the children had to record the size and color of their leaves. We ended our exploration with some fun leaf rubbings!

Thanks so much for stopping by to take a peek at our week! I hope you enjoyed learning about all that is new in Room 202!
