Curriculum Update:

Into Reading
Last week we continued Module 3 in our Into Reading curriculum, and worked hard to answer the question: "What makes a community?". The books Quinito's Neighborhood by Ina Cumpiano and The Alphabet from the Sky by Benedict Gross and Joey Lee helped us deepen our understanding of what a community is, and why communities are important. We also enjoyed learning more about the Walpole community by reading an amazing digital book created by our digital learning coach, Mrs. Arnold. Click here to enjoy it at home! In phonics, we learned about the letter o and practiced reading the sight/heart words from and your

In honor of the letter o we learned about Inky, a real octopus that escaped from a New Zealand aquarium in 2016! The class enjoyed making their own Inkys and learning real facts and information about the octopus.

We also had fun playing a sight word matching game on the Touchview!

Math
In math the class worked on early addition skills last week! We learned that adding means putting groups together, and the children were also introduced to the + and = symbols, and the term "equation" which is also known as a number sentence. In the week ahead we will begin to explore the concept of subtraction!

Writing
The labeling fun continues in writing as we continue to practice writing the sounds we hear in words. A highlight of our week was labeling items we saw in a detailed picture.

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn, grow, and play in the wonderful world that is K! 🍎📖🎒
