Pumpkin Fun!
Friday was a spectacular time for science and math as we participated in some pumpkin fun! We began our exploration by learning about the parts of a pumpkin and the pumpkin life cycle. All of this learning culminated in an exciting activity that involved opening and exploring a real pumpkin!

Seed counting was another exciting (and gooey!) part of our pumpkin exploration. We were shocked to learn that our pumpkin had 392 seeds! That's A LOT of seeds!

We also enjoyed reading the story Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano. This was the perfect book to enjoy as we finished module 2 in our literacy curriculum which focused on the theme that our differences are what make us unique and special!

Curriculum Update:

Into Reading
Last week we completed Module 2 in our Into Reading program as we read the books Tiny Rabbits Big Wish and My Friends as we continued to answer the question: What makes each of us special? We also continued to review synonyms and antonyms, and identified the problem and solution in the stories we read. In phonics, we learned about the sound and formation of the letters p and c, and practiced reading the sight/heart words was and you.

Math
In math last week we completed module/unit 2 by exploring numbers that make 10! To practice this skill, we learned to play a new game called Beat you to 10 which the children enjoyed playing with a partner.

Writing
In writing we learned all about labeling! A label is a word that tells what something is, and can help readers to better understand our work. Last week the students practiced labeling objects in our classroom, school, and even ME! At this point in the school year most of our labels consist of the beginning sounds we hear in words. Students who are ready are encouraged to stretch out the words they are writing and include as many sounds as they can!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn, grow, and play in the wonderful world that is K! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ“–๐ŸšŒ
