Curriculum

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we discussed the question, "What do seeds become?' as we read the book Seeds by Ken Robbins. We learned that fruits and vegetables grow from seeds, and that some of these tasty treats even have one big, hard seed called a pit! We were excited to try our own experiment by placing a pit from an avocado into a glass of water. We hope in the next few weeks an avocado plant will begin to sprout! Also last week we began practicing the new sight words of, you, and they and also learned all about the letter O!

Science and Literacy came together as we read about, and then explored, various types of seeds.

The students had a great time making their own octopus at the Creation Station!

Math
It was an exciting time for math in Room 202 last week as we celebrated the 100th day of school! The class enjoyed participating in 100th day math centers which had them counting, reading, and writing numbers from 1 to 100!

Happy 100th Day!

Social Studies
In Social Studies we learned all about Chinese New Year! We discovered that 2019 is the year of the pig and that, in the Chinese culture,  pigs are believed to be a personable animals that brings lots of wealth! We also learned that dragons and fish are common symbols of Chinese New Year and that this very special holiday is often celebrated with delicious meals and parades!

Making dragon masks or paper lanterns to celebrate Chinese New Year was a fun Friday afternoon activity!

Thanks so much for stopping by to take a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!
