Baby Pictures!
Last week in Literacy we read See How We Grow, a story which explores how babies grow and change.Students are invited to bring in their own baby pictures any day next week to share with the class so we can see how they have grown and changed too! Pictures will be returned unharmed at the end of the week,

Hip Hip Hooray for the 100th Day!
A friendly reminder that this Tuesday, February 5th is the 100th day of school! Please have your child bring in their bag of 100 items on this day (your child came home with information about this on Friday). I am looking forward to having the class share their creative collections on Tuesday!

Progress Reports
On Tuesday, February 5th you will be able to access your child's Term 1 progress report/report card using the Apsen/X2 student information system. It is important to review your child’s progress report with them, and to celebrate all that they have accomplished this term! It is also a great time to discuss areas of focus or improvement. When viewing your child’s progress report, it is important to remember that the skills shown on the report are what we expect our students to master by the end of kindergarten. Being that it is only the first term, it is completely appropriate for students that are doing well to earn scores of "not yet" (N) or "partially" (P), as they are working towards mastering each standard by the end of the year. Please keep in mind that we have not yet covered some standards in our curriculum (as is the case with many of our science and social studies standards). As a result, your child was not assessed on their mastery of these skills this term. After reviewing your child’s progress report, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions that you may have. I am SO proud of each child for working very hard this term, and look forward to supporting their continued success in our second term together!

Curriculum:

Kindness Week
Last week Boyden School participated in Kindness Week! This very special week provided us with the opportunity to discuss ways we can be kind, and perform small acts of kindness for others.

One of our Kindness Week activities included making cards for former Boyden Student Philip Lippolis who is currently fighting cancer for the third time. To learn more about Philip and his story click here.

Kindness Week also invited teachers to switch classrooms to read the book Be Kind by Pat Zietlow Miller. A BIG "thank you" to Mrs. Nethercote who read this very special story aloud to our class!

Adding our thumb prints to Boyden's kindness banner was another highlight of the week!

Math
Last week in math we continued to learn about subtraction! We practiced writing subtraction number sentences using the - and = signs, and enjoyed connecting the concept of subtraction to stories like Ten Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed and Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons. This week we will participate in various counting activities as we celebrate the 100th day of school!

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the book See How We Grow by Katacha Diaz and discussed the question, "How do children change as they grow?". We also learned about the letter "F" and were introduced to the new sight words me, see, and look.

Writing
On Friday we had a great time writing about our Superbowl predictions. Most students think the Patriots will be the big winners. Fingers crossed! GO PATS!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!
