The children settled into Room 115 nicely as we spent our first full week of school together! Last week we continued to practice classroom routines and also review expected behaviors. I couldn't be more pleased with how quickly everyone is acclimating to Kindergarten life! 🍎
Important Dates:

Announcements:
Lunch Forms
Starting this week, I will no longer be sending home a Google Form to indicate how your Kindergartener will be getting lunch each day. Please discuss with your child whether they are bringing their lunch from home or getting a school lunch in the morning so that they are able to tell me when they get to school. Thank you so much!
Johnny Appleseed
On Friday, September 25th we will be celebrating Johnny Appleseed and all things apples in Kindergarten! Students are welcome to wear the color red, or any apple attire they may have at home to mark the occassion.
Curriculum Update:
Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the story Keisha Ann Can! by Daniel Kirk and explored some of things we might discover this year in Kindergarten. We also learned about the story elements of character and setting, and spent a great deal of time discussing our names and also practiced writing them!
Fundations
The students were also introduced the Echo and Baby Echo, two characters who will help us learn during our Fundations time! The Fundations program is used to teach phonics skills in Kindergarten. We will begin with reviewing all of the letters and sounds in the alphabet, and move on to reading short vowel words as the year progresses.
In math we began the first module in our Bridges curriculum! Last week's lessons focused on sorting shoes, and the class did an excellent job of noticing various attributes our shoes had, and sorting them into categories. 👞👟🥿
We also explored new math manipulatives such as pattern blocks, unifix cubes, and polydrons during our math work station time. Work stations are independent activities that take place after our whole group lesson.
Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn, grow, and play in the wonderful world that is K! 🍎📘🚌
