Guest Readers
A big thank you to Mr. Khatcherian and Mrs. Denitzio who were our first guest readers last week! If you have signed up to be a guest reader in the upcoming weeks, feel free to keep your visit a surprise for your child. I do not tell the class who the guest readers are ahead of time, and the surprise has added an extra layer of fun and excitement! If you have not signed up yet and would like to, click here!
Lost and Found
This item has lost its owner. If it belongs to your child please let me know. 😊
Curriculum Update:
Fundations
Last week in Fundations we learned the sight words are and little. The class was also continued to practice reading words with the digraphs sh, ch, th, wh, and ck.
After reading the book Sheep in a Shop by Nancy Shaw, the class enjoyed making their own sheep and reading words with the -sh digraph!
In Reader's Workshop we continued to ask the essential question: "What can I learn when I look closely?" We enjoyed reading the books I Know the River Loves Me by Maya Christina Gonzalez, and Look-Alike Animals by Robin Bernard. These books provided us with practice identifying the topic and central idea of a text, as well as discussing the author's purpose for writing each selection.
Last week in Reader's Workshop we also learned about multiple meaning words (also known as homophones).
Math
In math we began Unit 7 last week. The first module of this unit had us revisiting the concept of measurement. Our learning focused on weight and we examined various types of scales. We also used balance scales to compare the weight of different objects.
The students above sort real life items into the categories "heavy" and "light".
Writer's Workshop
In Writer's Workshop the students were introduced to a new type of writing known as narrative writing! In this writing unit the children will tell about a real life event in a three page story that consists of a beginning, middle, and end. Last week we began to write a narrative story about when our chairs went missing on April Fools' Day! 😂
Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn, grow, and play in the wonderful world that is K! 🍎📖🚌
