Curriculum Update:

Fundations
Last week in Fundations the children learned all about the letters c and o. We also practiced reading the sight word was. Our color of the week was purple!

As a fun Friday project the class enjoyed making their own octopus! This activity provided the children with great fine motor practice, and reinforced our Fundations letter, picture, and sound: o, octopus, /o/! We also learned real facts and information about the octopus (did you know they have 3 hearts?!?) through nonfiction books and videos.

Into Reading
Last week in our Into Reading program, we continued to answer the essential question: What makes each of us special? We read the stories I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont and ABC I Like Me! by Nancy Carlson to help us deepen our understanding that our unique traits and differences are what set us apart from others. Last week's lessons taught us to identify the topic, theme, and central idea of stories, and we explored to concept of letters verses words as well. It sure was a busy week!

Math
Last week in math we continued to identify, write, and build numbers 0-10. The students were introduced to a new learning tool called a number rack, and used them to show numbers 6-10 as five and "some more".

The students above work with partners to show numbers 6-10 on their number racks.

Writer's Workshop
In Writer's Workshop we continue to practice our drawing skills as we use pictures to tell stories and share about events we've experienced. Over the past few weeks the students have been using beginning letter sounds to label the objects in their illustrations. This week we will explore stretching our words even further by writing both the beginning and ending sounds we hear!

Social Studies
A big thank you to Mrs. Arnold, Boyden's Digital Learning Coach, who helped bring Hispanic Heritage Month to a close by teaching us about prominent Hispanic figures using the Pebble Go! website. The children learned SO much and were unbelievably engaged throughout her lesson. Thank you Mrs. Arnold!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn,       grow, and play in the wonderful world that is K! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ“–๐ŸšŒ
