Cafeteria Tables
Last week got off to a great start as our class enjoyed eating lunch at our new, round tables in the cafeteria! The new setup is definitely more conducive to conversation and socialization (and hopefully a little eating too!).

Library Tomorrow!
A friendly reminder that our class visits the library/media center on Mondays. Please have your child return their book so that they are able to select a new one. Please also return your child's clean quiet time towel as well. Thanks so much for all of your help! :)

Curriculum Update

Reader's Workshop
Last week in Reader's Workshop we completed Unit 3 which focused on strengthen our reading supper powers as we tackle more challenging texts! The children have worked SO hard throughout this unit and I couldn't be more proud of their progress! Since last week's sight/high frequency word was "little", we also took the time to enjoy the book Little Quack by Lauren Thompson.

After reading the book, the class enjoyed writing about their favorite duck from the story and completing a paper ripping craft!

Fundations
In Fundations we continue to learn about the digraphs sh, th, ch, wh, and ck! We are also learning to distinguish between long and short vowel sounds, and have learned that a vowel makes the long sound when it says its name!

Math
In math we continue to practice making and counting teen numbers using base ten blocks. Please click here to listen to a song we've used in class to help build our understanding of this concept!

Math centers were a great way for the students to practice their teen number counting skills. Our centers last week included: a base ten cut, glue, color, base ten Boom Cards (on Chromebooks), write the room, and a spin and color activity!

Social Studies
Last week in Social Studies we learned about the holiday, Ramandan. We discovered that Ramandan is a holiday that is celebrated by Muslims all over the world and takes place for an entire month! During this time people focus on doing generous acts and being kind to others. The children were also fascinated to learn that many people fast during the daylight hours when celebrating Ramandan.

After learning about Ramadan the class drew and wrote about ways that everyone can be kind!

Unicorn Day!
Did you know that April 9th is National Unicorn Day? Since this fun day fell on a Saturday this year, we decided to celebrate on Friday. We had a magical time participating in many unicorn themed activities!

We had a great time reading unicorn themed books and poems, completing a CVC word matching activity, and even playing a unicorn themed memory game at center time!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!
