I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! Please check out some highlights from our very busy week below!

Announcements

Quiet Time Towels
Quiet Time towels were sent home on Friday for washing. Please have your child return their clean towel to school tomorrow (Monday). Thank you!

Save the Date!
Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences are right around the corner and will be held on October 20th, October 22nd, and October 27th. You will have the option to meet with me in person, via Google Meet or through a phone conference. I will share more information about conferences as it become available.

Fundations
Over the last few weeks I have been sending home Fundations newsletters to keep you up-to-date on all the Fundations fun we are having in the classroom. From time to time these newsletters will provide activity ideas for you to try with your child. While I encourage you to try these whenever you are able, please note that I do not expect anything to be returned to school. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!

Curriculum Update

Media
Monday was an exciting day as we headed back to the Media Center! During last week's visit Mrs. Moses taught us how to use our shelf markers to hold our spots when checking out books. Each child then got the opportunity to select a book to check out! Please note that our media/library day will be every Monday. Please be sure that your child returns their book so that they are able to take out a new one!

Fundations
Last week in Fundations we learned about the letters m and n and practiced reading the sight word "and".

School Safety Lesson!
A big Boyden "thank you" to Officer Hart and Officer O'Connor from the Walpole Police Department. Both officers visited Room 202 last week to teach us about school safety. The class was incredibly attentive and learned a lot about the ways we can stay safe at school!

Writer's Workshop
The wonderful writing continued during Writer's Workshop! Last week we practiced stretching out words to write them, and learned how to share hard-to-write ideas. While one of our lessons focused on stretching out words and writing as many sounds as we could, it is still perfectly appropriate for your child to write using just beginning letter sounds.

Thursday's lesson had us take a break from our paper and pencils and introduced white boards instead! The class did a fantastic job of helping me draw a person doing a handstand for my next teaching book on gymnastics. While at first we thought this might be a tricky undertaking, we learned that writer's never give up! After completing our pictures we then worked together to stretch out the very long word: "handstand"!

Science
It was another exciting week for science as we completed our unit on apples! To conclude our exploration we experimented to see if an apple will float! After making our predictions we discovered that apples do indeed float when placed in water.

Reader's Workshop
Last week in Reader's Workshop we learned that readers read every part of a book including the cover and each page until they reach the end! We also practiced rereading familiar texts so that we were able to gain new information from our nonfiction books.

Math
Last week in math we began to compare numbers to 10! We used the words more, fewer, and same as to describe groups of objects we counted.

The students above are playing a game called Compare and Race which helped them to compare numbers to 10 and use our new math vocabulary more, fewer, and same as.

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!
