Curriculum:

Last Week's Sight Words: he, she, we
This Week's Sight Words: me, be

Reader's Workshop
Last week in Reader's Workshop we continued our exploration of nonfiction books. We learned to talk like an expert as we identified important vocabulary in various nonfiction books, and even enjoyed some nonfiction book playdates!

The student above are reading nonfiction texts aloud to their playdate partners! During our "playdates" the children taught their partners important vocabulary from their books, acted out their book, and even had their partner look for snap words!

Math
In math last week we completed a short unit on position words! The children enjoyed many fun songs, games, and interactive activities that helped them practice the meaning of the words on, above, below, beside, between, as well as left and right!

The students above are showing off  left and right bracelets that were used as a visual support as we enjoyed this fun video!

We also completed a fun cut and glue activity after reading the book Pete the Cat: Wheels on the Bus!

Fundations
It was an exciting time in Fundations last week as we began Unit 4 which focuses on digraphs! We learned that a digraph is when two letters "stick together" to make one new sound, and practiced reading words with the digraphs sh, th, ch, wh, and ck.

Writer's Workshop
In Writer's Workshop we continue to practice our opinion writing! The students have quickly become pros at identifying problems and including reasons why these problems should be resolved. Last week we began to explore "fix it" solutions or ways to solve the problems we have identified. While our focus up until now has been problems we've identified at school, at the end of last week we began exploring problems that impact the world such as liter, pollution, and cutting down trees. The children continue to work hard and are doing a fantastic job with this unit!

Art
Friday was a beautiful day to get outside for art! Thank you to Mrs. Marinelli for sharing some pictures from her outdoor lesson which had the children drawing chalk self portraits!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!
