Curriculum Update:

Literacy
In literacy we continued to practice reading the sight words one, two, three, four, and five. We also worked on tapping out CVC words with more challenging letters such as x, qu, and z in Fundations.

The students enjoyed using stamps to make CVC words during center time last week!

The class got up and moving during Fundations last week as student volunteers worked together to make CVC words!
Math
Last week in math we began an exciting unit on teen numbers! The children learned that a teen number must always start with the number 1 and have one group of ten and then some more! While the class is very familiar with tens frames at this point in the school year, next week we will take out the base ten blocks and practice representing teen numbers with a new tool!

Math centers provided the children with the opportunity to practice new skills such as representing teen numbers, as well as review previously taught skills such as decomposing numbers to 10.

Mrs. Tilton Visits!
On Thursday we welcomed Mrs. Tilton into our classroom for her last visit before she starts her maternity leave! While Mrs. Tilton is gone our school adjustment counselor, Mrs. Aissis, will be working with us as we continue to develop and strengthen our social/emotional skills.

During her lesson Mrs. Tilton read the story Personal Space Camp by Julia Cook and discussed the importance of leaving enough room around our bodies in order to make ourselves, and others, comfortable.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
One exciting highlight of our week was celebrating the birthday of  the iconic children's book author, Dr. Seuss! We had a great time reading many Dr. Seuss stories and practicing our rhyming skills as we celebrated the big day!

We had many brave friends who said they WOULD be willing to try green eggs and ham!

The students above had a great time reading Dr. Seuss stories with their second grade buddies.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
