Announcements

Q and U Wedding
We are pleased to announce the upcoming wedding of the letters Qq and Uu in Kindergarten! As part of the festivities, we will be having a wedding shower for Qq and Uu. Please help your child find an object in your house that would be appropriate for the couple (Q-Tips, an umbrella, Quarters, etc.). All items will be returned. Please gift wrap the item and send it to school on Wednesday, June 10th. Thank you!

Field Day!
Mark your calendars, this Friday, June 8th is Field Day! More information about the details of the day will be sent home with your child later this week. Be on the lookout!

Curriculum

Literacy
The theme of our learning for the past few weeks has been 'Going Places', and the children have had a great time discussing how people in different parts of the world travel and go to school. We have also been learning about the letters 'V' and 'Z' and practicing our last two sight words come and where!

Math
We have been working on Topic 13 in math which focuses on sorting, counting, classifying and categorizing data. Last week the children sorted objects by one attribute such as size, shape, or color!

The children had a great time practicing their sorting skills at math centers!

Science
These last few weeks have sure been an exciting time for Science in our classroom! After meeting our new caterpillars at the beginning of the month, we then enjoyed watching them change into chrysalises. We got a BIG surprise this week as our butterflies emerged overnight and were ready for release. We were sad to say goodbye but enjoyed being a part of their transformation!

It was so much fun to watch our caterpillars grow and change!

The children enjoyed drawing and writing about the changes they observed in their Butterfly Life Cycle journals.

Goodbye butterflies!

More Science!
Along with our study of butterflies, we have also been learning about seeds in science! After reading the story The Sunflower House by Eve Bunting, the class got the chance to practice sequencing the events of the sunflower life cycle!

The class enjoyed showing off their super sunflower seed projects!

On Friday we had a blast planting our own sunflower seeds. We can wait to watch them grow!

An interest in seeds brought some students over to the Boyden Garden during recess. The students above had a great time planting green bean seeds that had already started to sprout!

I hope you enjoyed this jammed packed peek at our peek! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!
