A Peek At Our Week!

Monday, October 9, 2017
It was another fun and exciting week in Room 202! Please enjoy some of the highlights below!

Announcements

Room Parents
A very big THANK YOU to all those who completed the Helping Hands form that was sent home a few weeks ago and volunteered their time to help out in our classroom! I am excited to share that Mrs. Delaney, Mrs. Domineau, and Mrs. Travis will be our room parents this year! Numerous volunteer opportunities will arise throughout the school year, so please don’t despair if you have not yet been contacted.

Field Trip
Please mark your calendars as the Kindergarten classes will be traveling to Franklin Park Zoo on Tuesday, October 24th! Permission slips for this field trip were sent home with your child on Friday, and it is asked that they be returned to school this Friday, October 13th. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns!

All About Me!
A friendly reminder that your child's All About Me poster is due on Tuesday, October 10th (tomorrow!). These posters will be displayed on our classroom bulletin board when your child is the Star Student!

Curriculum Update

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the story Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip with Kindergarten by Joseph Slate. This story helped us discuss the essential question, "How do people in a community cooperate?". We also reviewed the letters T-Z and continued to practice the sight words "the" and "little". Next week we will take a more in-depth look at the letter "M".

The children did a great job reading their sight words "I", "am", "the" and "little" as they finished the sentence: "I am the little ____________." This writing will be kept in their writing journals in the classroom and sent home at the end of the school year.

Math

Last week in math we completed our unit on shapes! As a fun "grand finale" the students worked in groups to create their own 2D and 3D shapes using our Mat Man handwriting pieces and Model Magic! The results were absolutely fantastic!

Mr. Leary Visits!
Mr. Leary was back in Room 202 to continue his unit on feelings. During his lesson he discussed what it means to be sad and how we can tell when others may be feeling this way.

Fly, Fly, Witchy!
The Kindergarten classes did a fantastic job performing the song 'Fly, Fly, Witchy' at Boyden's first school wide assembly of the year! Your child brought home their witchy, along with the lyrics to this catchy tune last week for all those who are interested in singing it at home. ;)

Media
On Friday our class visited the Media Center and was able to check out books for the first time! Please be sure to have your child bring their book back to school each Friday so that they are able to select a new story!

Thanks so much for stopping by to take a peek at our week! I hope everyone had a fantastic long weekend! :)
