ABC Countdown
It's hard to believe that the end of the school year is almost here! In Kindergarten, we like to celebrate the last few weeks of school by doing an ABC countdown to summer. Each day we will on a different letter and participate in activities that begin with that letter. The fun will begin on Wednesday, May 8th with the letter A and "Anything But a Backpack" day. Please have your child bring their Boyden folder, lunch, etc. in a creative container such as a gift bag, pillowcase, crate...anything but a backpack! A complete list of activities will be sent home with your child. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.

Kindergarten Field Trip
On May 31st the Kindergarten classes will be taking a field trip to Franklin Park Zoo! Permission slips will be sent out this week, so please be on the lookout. More information will be shared as the time gets closer, but please be sure to mark your calendar for this very exciting day!

Star Student ⭐
Congratulations to Carolina who was our Star Student last week! We look forward to learning about, and celebrating another friend from our class in the week ahead!

Lost and Found
The items below are missing their owners. If you see something to recognize please let me know and I will be sure to send it home with your child.

May the 4th Be With You!
Geometry and Star Wars came together on Friday as we had a great time celebrating May 4th (a day early! 😂 )

Curriculum Update:

Fundations
Last week in Fundations we learned to read the sight word out. We also practiced building our reading fluency by chunking or "scooping" sentences instead of reading word by word, and continued to review the digraphs sh, th, ch, wh, and ck.

The students above sorted pictures by their digraph sound during reading center time!

Reader's Workshop
In Reader's Workshop we began our final unit, Avid Readers. We learned that avid readers are those who are engaged in their reading and love reading SO much that they read all the time! I am looking forward to ending the year with this unit and supporting each child as they continue to develop their joy in reading.

The boys dominated the avid reading game last week! 😂

Math
In math last week we continued to practice solving addition and subtraction number stories. We also play a game called How Many in my Hand? which reviewed the different number combinations that make 5.

Science
We continued to observe our caterpillars last week and were excited to watch them transform from caterpillars into their chrysalis stage. Next stop, butterflies! 🦋

Hooray for Friday!
Nothing like a little Free Choice time on Friday with friends to end a busy week!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn, grow, and play in the wonderful world that is K! 🚌📖🍎
