Kindergarten Field Trip
On May 31st the Kindergarten classes will be taking a field trip to Franklin Park Zoo! Permission slips are due on Friday, May 24th. Please be sure to sign your child's permission slip and send in the $2 fee by this day so that they are able to attend. Also, due to the large number of parents who offered to chaperone, I will be putting names in a hat and picking randomly. I will be notifying parents who have been selected by the end of the week.

Star Student ⭐
Congratulations to Dante who was our Star Student last week! Every child has now had a turn to be the Star Student, and we will celebrate all of our Room 115 friends and their achievements this year during the remaining few weeks of school.

ABC Countdown
We had a great time continuing with our ABC Countdown to summer as we celebrated the letters D, E, F, G, and H. Please enjoy a few pictures from these very exciting days!

Piggy and Elephant Day🐷🐘
The beginning of the week was the perfect time to celebrate our favorite animal friends Piggie and Gerald!

Hat Day 🎩
Friday was the perfect day for hat day! We also enjoyed sharing our games with our 5th grade buddies.

Curriculum Update:

Fundations
Last week in Fundations we learned to read the sight words they and with. We have also kicked our sentence writing practice into high gear as we prepare for first grade. The student are consistently being reminded to use appropriate capitalization, punctuation, and finger spaces between words and are making excellent progress!

Math
In math we continue to practice solving addition and subtraction problems. The children were also introduced to counting by 2s last week! We practiced this skill in small groups and also played a whole group game called Sparkle! This has quickly become a class favorite. Ask your child about the game and how to play!

We also reviewed the concept of estimating last week! The students had to estimate how far they could jump and then measured the distance with popsicle sticks. Monday's beautiful weather made this a perfect activity to do outside! 🌞

Science
Wednesday was a bittersweet day as we said good-bye to our beautiful butterflies! We had SO much fun watching them grow and change as we learned about the butterfly life cycle. 🦋

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn, grow, and play in the wonderful world that is K! 🍎📖🚌

Curriculum Update:

Fundations
Last week in Fundations we learned to read the sight words this and that. We also continued to practice building our reading fluency by chunking or "scooping" sentences, as well as putting words in the correct order to make sentences that look and sound right!

Reader's Workshop
We continue to develop our reading skills as we work through our Avid Readers unit. Last week the students practiced bringing their stories to life by acting them out! We also used speech and thought bubbles to make predictions about what characters might be thinking and feeling or saying in given situations. In next week's lessons we will think and react to nonfiction texts!

Math
In math we continue to practice solving addition and subtraction story (word) problems. We also counted and compared numbers by playing a fun game called Bug Catchers! 🪲

Science
Our caterpillars continue to grow and thrive! Last week we enjoyed watching them as they formed their chrysalises, and on Thursday we transferred them to their pavillion where one quickly emerged as a butterfly! We are hoping to find more butterflies have made their way out of their cozy chrysalises when we return to school tomorrow! 🤞
