Winter Crafts ⛄
I 'm still looking for volunteers for our winter craft morning. In order to make this fun event possible, I would need at least 4 parents to plan and bring in a winter themed craft (think snowflakes, snowmen, etc) to do with the children. I have set aside time on Thursday, December 21st from 10:30-11:45 for this seasonal excitment! If you are unable to come into the classroom but would like to donate supplies please let me know. Thank you SNOW much!

Curriculum Update:

Fundations
Last week in Fundations we learned about the letters v. and w. We also practiced reading the sight word "have". Our color of the week was gray!

As a fun Friday project, the class enjoyed making Model Magic volcanoes to reinforce the sounds of the letter V! 🌋

Reader's Workshop
It was an exciting time in Reader's Workshop last week as we began a new unit called Sharing Reading! To kick off this unit, we learned about the difference between letters and words, and used special fingers to practice pointing to words we found both in the classroom and in the books we read.

The class had a blast using their special finger pointers! We learned that each word (no matter the length) only get one point or "tap".

Math
In math, the class worked on early addition and subtraction skills last week! We learned that adding means putting groups together, and subtracting means taking a group away. The children were also introduced to the +, -, and = symbols, and the term "equation" which is also known as a number sentence.

We read the story Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons to reinforce the concept of subtraction.

Writer's Workshop
Last week in Writer's Workshop we began to put the finishing touches on our All About Boyden books. The children made sure that each page had at least 5 colors and 3 labels, and some students even began making covers! Once students finished their Boyden books, they will then be able to "write" a new piece about a topic of their choosing that they know a lot about! In the past the children have enjoyed writing books all about soccer, football, dance, dolls, Pokemon, and even desserts (yum!). I can't wait to see what creative topics they come up with!

Happy Friday! 🍕
Nothing like pizza Fridays to get us ready for another weekend! What a great way to end our week!!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn, grow, and play in the wonderful world that is K! 🍎🚌📖
