Winter Crafts ⛄
As the winter break approaches, I am looking to bring back the pre-covid tradition of doing a winter craft morning with the class! In order to make this fun event possible, I would need at least 4 parent volunteers to plan and bring in a winter themed craft (think snowflakes, snowmen, etc) to do with the children. I have set aside time on Thursday, December 21st from 10:30-11:45 for this seasonal excitment! If you are unable to come into the classroom but would like to donate supplies please let me know. I will be sure to reach out with more details for parents who are interested/available.

Gifts for Kids
A friendly reminder that our class is sponsoring a child for the holidays through the Gifts for Kids program. If you would like to contribute a gift, please send me an email or quick note to let me know that your child has permission to pick a tag from the class poster. Click here for more info. Thank you!

A big "thank you" to the two students from Mrs. Ivatt's fourth grade class who delivered our Gift for Kids poster on Tuesday!

Curriculum Update

Our short week before Thanksgiving was a great time to complete many fall and Thanksgiving themed activities! I hope you enjoy a few of the highlights below.

The students above have fun as they play a pattern block turkey game and use pattern block stickers to create turkey feathers! 🦃

Mrs. Carroll Visits!
On Wednesday Mrs. Carroll came back to Room 115 to teach us about internet safety! She stressed the importance of asking grown-ups permission before going online, and helped us identify safe vs. not safe sites.

Media/Stem
The children continue to enjoy new literature as well as develop an understanding and appreciation for science, technology, engineering and math in media/stem! Please be sure to check our specials calendar for the dates of book return so that your child is able to bring home a new selection. Thank you!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn, grow, and play in the wonderful world that is K! 🍎🚌📖

Last week in Fundations the children learned about the letters h, k and l. We also practiced reading the sight words "had" and "did". Our color of the week was white!

Reader's Workshop
It was an exciting time in Reader's Workshop last week as we finished our storybook unit! To celebrate we drew pictures of our favorite old familiar storybooks, and even went on a storybook readers parade! Click here to watch us practice our special parade chant!

Writer's Workshop
In Writer's Workshop we continued to work on our "All About" books which focus on Boyden School. We learned that writers talk about and share their writing with others, and identify things they are proud of, as well as things that were tricky for them when creating their pieces.

Math
Last week in math the class began to explore geometry concepts, specifically how to compose and decompose shapes. Using pattern blocks we discovered that three triangles make a trapezoid, and two trapezoids make a hexagon!

Happy Birthday Teddy Bears!
Celebrating the 120th birthday of the teddy bear was a highlight of our week! In addition to completing many teddy themed activities, we also enjoying reading the books Padington and Corduroy.

In math, the students made teddy bear patterns!

We also made fun pajama day projects in writing!

The class enjoyed playing a digital memory game where they had to match a Fundations letter with its picture!

As a fun end of the week project the students made polka dotted pink and purple Ps! 💗💜

Math
Last week in math we continued to explore numbers 0-10. Our week began by learning about tally marks and how they can be helpful for organizing our numbers and counting by fives. The class had a great time representing numbers 5-10 by using popsicle sticks as tally marks!

Reader's Workshop
Our unit on retelling old familiar storybooks is coming to an end, and as a culminating activity the class enjoyed creating puppets to help them retell one of our favorite storybooks, Mrs. Wishy Washy! These puppets, as well as an overview of the story, was send home with your Kindergartner last week. See if they can tell you the story using character voices and exact words from the story!

Writer's Workshop
Last week in Writer's Workshop we started our very first multi-page books! While each child is creating their own Show and Tell text, we are all writing about the same topic, Boyden School! The topic of each child's first page was all about our classroom. They are now working on subsequent pages about different places in our building including the cafeteria, media/stem lab, playground, and gym!

Social Studies
In Social Studies we learned about Veterans Day and the heros in the armed forces who keep us safe from the land, air, and sea. We also discussed what it means to be patriotic and how we show our patriotism each day as we say The Pledge of Allegiance. Thank you to all of our veterans both past and present!

ST Math
Thursday was an exciting day as ST Math's mascot, JiJi, paid all of the classrooms a special visit! JiJi also brought us a certificate celebrating Room 115's progress, as we have completed 15% of our journey as a group. I couldn't be more proud of everyone's effort and hard work with ST Math! 🐧
