Announcements:

Welcome Mrs. Dacko!
I am thrilled to share that longtime Boyden Educational Support Professional, Mrs. Raquel Dacko, joined the Room 202 family last week! I had the pleasure of working with Mrs. Dacko for many years prior to the pandemic, and I couldn't be happier that she has resumed her role as a Kindergarten assistant. We are fortunate to have Mrs. Dacko in our classroom for three full mornings a week, and for another large chunk of time on the other two days. Welcome back Mrs. Dacko!!

Library Tomorrow!
A friendly reminder that our class visits the library/media center on Mondays. Please have your child return their book so that they are able to select a new one. Please also return your child's clean quiet time towel as well. Thanks so much for all of your help! :)

Curriculum Update:

This week's sight words: be, me

Read Across America!
Last week we celebrated Read Across America week by learning about a new author each day! The students enjoyed reading some of their most famous (and not so famous) books and completing learning activities that corresponded with each text. On Monday we learned about Eric Litwin and James Dean who are best known for writing the Pete the Cat books. On Tuesday we enjoyed books by Mo Willems who is the author of the Piggy and Elephant books! The timing couldn't have been more perfect as Tuesday was National Pig Day!

Last week in math we started a unit on composing and decomposing numbers! The friends from blue table show how they decomposed, or showed different ways to make the number 5, using the characters from the story There's a Bird on my Head! by Mo Willems.

On Wednesday we read books by Laura Numeroff who is the author of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie!

The students above show off their writing done in Laura Numeroff style!

Thursday's spotlight author was Christian Robinson who wrote the book You Matter! The students practiced their writing skills by sharing things that matter to them. We also created a fun picture craft that reinforced the message that everyone matters! Be on the lookout for pictures of this fun activity in an upcoming blog post!

On Friday we read books by Eric Carle! The students enjoyed hearing the familiar story The Very Busy Spider, then creating their own busy spider mini book! We also practiced decomposing the numbers 5 and 6 as we completed a duck themed activity after listening to the book 10 Rubber Ducks.

The highlight of our week was Storybook Character Dress Up day on Friday! The students had a great time strutting their stuff on our red carpet yet again as we had our 2nd annual storybook character fashion show. Thank you so much for all of your help and support with this special theme day. It was truly a memorable one!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!
