Announcements:

Valentine's Day!
We will be celebrating Valentine's Day in our classroom on Monday, and students who wish to bring in Valentine cards (and have not already done so) are more than welcome to! Please remember to include every child in the class (we have 17) and have your child sign the cards with only THEIR name. A friendly reminder that candy/food of any kind is not allowed.

Progress Reports
Your child's progress report/report card is available for you to view on X2 as of Friday, February 11th. If you have any problems accessing their report or have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Library Tomorrow!
A friendly reminder that our class visits the library/media center on Mondays. Please have your child return their book so that they are able to select a new one. Please also return your child's clean quiet time towel as well. Thanks so much for all of your help! :)

Curriculum Update:

This Week's Sight Word: no

Fundations
Last week in Fundations we continued to practice reading CVC words such as cat, mop, and wig. The students were also introduced to what we call nonsense words. Terms such as fub, mif, and rig are all examples of nonsense words, and a child's ability to read this words correctly indicates how strong their word decoding abilities are. We will continue to practice reading nonsense words throughout the rest of the year.

Reader's Workshop
In Reader's Workshop we brought our Superpowers unit to a close as we practiced using intonation as we read in order to bring our books to life and avoid the dreaded "robot reading". We also learned about Book Talk Power and how we can retell our favorite stories to those around us!

The students above practice reading aloud and using their Book Talk power with a partner.

Math
It was an exciting time for math in Room 202 last week as we celebrated the 100th day of school! The class enjoyed participating in 100th day math centers which had them counting, reading, and writing numbers from 1 to 100!

Another highlight of our 100th day was our fashion show! Click the links below to see our Kindergarten models! (don't mind our messy classroom ;)

We are 100 days smarter!!!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!
