I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend and stayed safe and warm
during last night's snow event! It was a busy week in Room 202 and I greatly
enjoyed getting to know your kind, funny, and helpful children. Please enjoy
a few highlights from our time together that are featured below! :)

Curriculum Update:

Math
Last week in math we completed our unit on teen numbers! The children have become quite proficient at counting and writing their numbers from 11-20 and I couldn't be more thrilled!

The students above are working hard to put their teen numbers in the correct order.

After reading the story If You Give a Mouse a Cookie the class enjoyed completing their own cookie counting books which had them counting, writing, and representing the numbers 11-20!

Our cookie theme continued as the children complete a fun, teen number cookie activity in Seesaw.  Feel free to login to their Seesaw account to view their finished products!

Fundations
In Fundations last week we learned about the letters v and w, and the children did a fantastic job practicing the sound and formation of these two letters. The sight words "yes" and "no" were also introduced. We practiced reading these new sight words during Morning Meeting by answering various yes or no questions such as: "Do you like winter?" and "Do you have a sibling?"

Readering Workshop
It was incredible to see all of the hard work that is happening during our Reading Workshop time as the class continues to use our new Lucy Calkins reading program. Last week we practiced using our reading superpowers and were introduced to two new strategies, snap word power and sound power. Snap word power encourages the children to read previously introduced snap words (also known as sight words) automatically, and sound power teaches the students to look at the beginning letter of an unknown word. The class is very skilled at using their reading super powers and we will continue to practice implementing them during our independent, read to self, time.

The class was excited to add new books to their browsing bags on Friday!

Writing Workshop
It was a busy time for writing in our classroom last week as the children continued to work hard on their true, real life stories. During last week's lessons we learned about using our snap (aka sight) words in our writing, and even created our own individual word walls! We also practiced using our "storyteller voices" to make our work more exciting to listen to!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202! :)
