Hip Hip Hooray for the 100th Day!
A friendly reminder that this Thursday, February 6th is the 100th day of school! Please have your child bring in their bag of 100 items on this day (your child came home with information about this last week). I am looking forward to having the class share their creative collections on Thursday!

Valentine's Day!
We will be celebrating Valentine's Day in our classroom on February 14th! Information for children who wish to participate will be sent home at the beginning of the week.

Progress Reports
On Wednesday, February 5th you will be able to access your child's Term 1 progress report/report card using the Apsen/X2 student information system. It is important to review your child’s progress report with them, and to celebrate all that they have accomplished this term! It is also a great time to discuss areas of focus or improvement. When viewing your child’s progress report, it is important to remember that the skills shown on the report are what we expect our students to master by the end of kindergarten. Being that it is only the first term, it is completely appropriate for students that are doing well to earn scores of "not yet" (N) or "partially" (P), as they are working towards mastering each standard by the end of the year. Please keep in mind that we have not yet covered some standards in our curriculum (as is the case with many of our science and social studies standards). As a result, your child was not assessed on their mastery of these skills this term. After reviewing your child’s progress report, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions that you may have. I am SO proud of each child for working very hard this term, and look forward to supporting their continued success in our second term together!

Curriculum:

Literacy
Last week in literacy the children continued to practice reading the sight words of, you, and they. In Fundations we reviewed the formation of uppercase letters M-X and worked hard to tap even more CVC words!

The class enjoyed doing some sight word stamping during center time last week!
Math
It was an exciting time in math last week as our class began to explore number lines! We learned about and labeled the different parts of our class number line which included the arrows, tick marks, and numbers.

The number line Write the Room activity pictured above provided the students with the fun challenge of finding the missing numbers on several different number lines (some of which went all the way up to 120!)
Social Studies
In Social Studies we learned all about Chinese New Year! We discovered that 2020 is the year of the rat and that, in the Chinese culture,  rats are believed to be a cheerful and outgoing animals that brings lots of wealth! We also learned that dragons and fish are common symbols of Chinese New Year and that this very special holiday is often celebrated with delicious meals and parades!

We enjoyed making paper lanterns to celebrate the Chinese, or Lunar New Year!

Mrs. Tilton Visits!
We were happy to welcome Mrs. Tilton into our classroom on Thursday as she provided a wonderful lesson on how to best use the calming corner/chill out chair in our classroom. The students even enjoyed a helpful "how to" video created by some of Boyden's third grade students! Click Here to View the Video at Home!

During Mrs. Tilton's lesson each child had the opportunity to practice using the Chill our Chair and the calming tools that accompany it.

The Chill out Chair isn't just for the students. Teachers can use it too!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that in new in Room 202!
