Curriculum

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears and discussed the question "How can an adventure cause trouble?" We also learned about the letter "G" and practiced the sight words one, two, three, four, and five!

Math

We continued to learn about decomposing numbers in Topic 9 last week, and took a closer look at the ways to make the numbers 8 and 9!

The class had a great time working with a partner to find all of the way to make the  number nine!

Rock Your Socks!
It was wonderful to see so many children "Rock Their Socks" in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Day!

A Peek At Our Week

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! It sure seems like March is coming in like a lion with the snow that is predicted this week (along with all the other crazy weather we have been having!). Yikes! Let's hope the saying is true and it goes out like a lamb!

Announcements:

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Spring parent/teacher conferences are starting this week and will take place on Thursday, March 15th from 6-8PM, Friday, March 16th from 1:30-3:30PM, and Wednesday, March 21st from 6-8PM. Please use the conference scheduler on the Boyden website to make an appointment to discuss your child’s progress. Appointments are filling up fast, so make yours ASAP if you have not already done so! I look forward to meeting with everyone soon!

Field Trip

We had a fantastic time last week on our field trip to the Veteran's Memorial Auditorium to see 'Charlotte's Web'! A BIG thank you to Mrs. Couture and Mrs. Senic for chaperoning our trip!

Literacy

Last week in literacy we read the story My Lucky Day by Keiko Kasza, and discussed the question, "What adventures can you have on a lucky day?". We also continued to review the sight words do, are, and that and also learned about the letter L!

We had a great time designing our own llamas after reading the story 'Is your Mama a Llama?' by Deborah Guarino.

Math

Last week in math we continued to decompose (break apart) numbers and learned all of the ways to make 6 and 7! We also practice writing the different ways using tricky number sentences which placed the sum and equals sign BEFORE the two numbers we were adding!

Announcements

Field Trip

A friendly reminder that we will be traveling to Veteran's Memorial Auditorium tomorrow (Monday) to see a play of Charlotte's Web! Please review the following reminders to ensure it is a fun and enjoyable morning for your child!

• Please be sure to arrive to school on time. We will be leaving on the bus promptly at 9:00 AM.

• All students should please eat a hearty breakfast. Although we ask that you still send a snack to school (just in case) we most likely will not have the opportunity to eat before we leave for the performance.

• We will return for lunch and will be having an afternoon snack. Please be sure to plan for these things in the afternoon.

• We will be back at Boyden School by 12:00. Half Day Kindergarten students will go home at their normal time via their typical transportation.

Special Visit!

We were THRILLED to welcome Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski to Boyden School on Thursday! His visit was a great was to "kick-off" Read Across America day which takes place each year on March 2nd (Dr. Seuss's Birthday!). We will be celebrating the Read Across America campaign for the entire month of March in our classroom. For parents, relatives, and friends that are interested in coming in to read, please refer to the parent notice that was sent home with your child last week!

Literacy

Last week in literacy we read the story Bunny Time by Rick Walton. While reading this story we discussed the question, "What adventures do you have throughout the day?". We also were introduced to the new sight words: do, are, and that, and practiced the sound of the letter "H".

H week was the perfect time to practice writing our home address!

Math

Last week in math we began Topic 9 which focuses on composing and decomposing numbers to 10. We had a great time finding all the ways to make the number 4 and 5, and are looking forward to continuing this work with the numbers 6 and 7 this week!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

One exciting highlight of our week was celebrating the birthday of  the iconic children's book author, Dr. Seuss! We had a great time reading many Dr. Seuss stories and practicing our rhyming skills in preparation for the big day. The children also enjoyed creating their own Dr. Seuss hats by writing rhyming words in each stripe!
