Sugar Cubes Needed
I am currently looking for boxes of sugar cubes to use for an upcoming project in the classroom. Any donations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you SO much in advance!

Holiday Cards
The children had a fantastic time creating their own holiday cards for the annual Dedham Savings Bank holiday card making contest! We can't wait to find out who the lucky winners will be in a few weeks!

Curriculum

Literacy
We continued to talk about hibernation last week as we read the nonfiction text A Bed for the Winter by Karen Wallace. The children enjoyed the real photographs in this book and continued to build background knowledge about animals that hibernate. We also were introduced to the sight words he and for, and focused on the letter "i".

We had a great time designing our own igloos for "i" week!

Math
In math we began a unit on teen numbers! We learned that a teen number must start with the number one and also must have one group of ten and then "some more". We discovered that the number 12 is one group of ten and two more, and that 13 is one group of ten and three more! This week we will take a closer look at the numbers 14, 15, 16, and 17!

In addition to learning about teen numbers, we also reviewed number order concepts. The children had a great time applying their ordering skills while also learning about number lines!

Bee-Bots
A BIG '"thank you" to Boyden's Technology Specialist, Mrs. Carroll, who took time to visit our classroom last week! Mrs. Carroll and her fifth grade "Techsperts" did a fantastic lesson on Bee-Bots! Bee-Bots are a child friendly way of introducing "coding" and are also fantastic for teaching directionality, sequencing, estimation, and problem solving skills. The class had a fantastic time creating the 'code' to get our Bee-Bots from one place on their mat to another, and Mr. Dearborn and I also had a blast getting in on the action! For more information on Bee-Bots click here!

I hope you enjoyed taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!
