Media Center Celebration!
It was an exciting day on Tuesday as everyone in our class remembered to return their library books! Mrs. Moses rewarded us with taco smelly bookmarks and let us use her library "lovies". Great work!

Holiday Cards
Have you been to Dedham Savings Bank lately? If so, you may have seen some of the finalists in their annual holiday card contest! Congratulations to Jason and Landry whose cards are proudly on display!

Curriculum:

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the book Little Panda by Joanne Ryder. This nonfiction text helped us learn about the real life panda, Hua Mei, who was born at the San Diego Zoo in 1999. As an extension of this book, we also enjoyed watching the San Diego Zoo's panda cam! If you are interested in viewing the panda cam (and other animal cams too!)  click here!

The class had a great time making their own panda projects at the Creation Station center!

The class also enjoyed participating in many engaging Fundations review activities which included  making their own baby echo puppets and playing Scoot!

Math
Subtraction was our major focus in math last week and the children did a fantastic job developing their understanding of this sometimes tricky concept! We practiced solving subtraction number sentences that included the minus and equals signs, and also learned that you can cross off objects in a picture to show "taking away".

The students above are working hard to solve subtraction number sentences.

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!

Gifts for Kids
Thank you SO much for the kindness and generosity that was shown for Meredith, the child our class sponsored for the Gifts for Kids Program. While the technical due date for any contributions was this past Friday, Mrs. Ivatta will not be delivering the wish list items until this Tuesday, December 10th. Please be sure to send in any gifts on or before this date. Thank you!!!

Curriculum Update

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we learned about the letters Q and Z in Fundations! This marks the end of Unit 1 and our exploration of lowercase letters. In the next two weeks we will be reviewing everything we learned throughout the unit and we prepare to start Unit 2 after the winter break!

Literacy centers continue to be a highlight of our day! It is wonderful to see the children gaining independence when completing their center work.

Math
It was an exciting time in math last week as the students continued to practice their addition skills! Now that the children are becoming more confident adders, we were able to move away from direction instruction and transition to learning centers!

The class enjoyed using Boom Cards as they practiced writing addition number sentences using the + and = symbols.

Creating snow globe projects was another fun way we practiced our addition skills! I think the friends above agree that adding is SNOW much fun!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that in new in Room 202! :)
