Curriculum Update:

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the story Whose Garden Is It? by Mary Ann Hoberman. While reading this fantasy tale we answered the question, "Who lives in a garden?". We also continued to review the sight words "for" and "he" as well as the letter N! In Fundations we learned about the letters QU and Z.

Our story of the week made for a great conversation starter about gardens and the types of plants we can find in them! It's always fun when reading and science come together!

Literacy centers gave the children the opportunity to practice reading and writing the sight word "for", sorting words that began with the letters "N" and "S", looking for words that start with the letter "N" around our classroom, and even making their own necklaces!

Math
Last week in math we continued our exploration of teen numbers! We learned that the number 11 is made up of one group of ten and then one more, and the number 12 is made up of one group of ten and then two more! This week we will take a closer look at the numbers 13, 14, and 15! We also enjoyed another visit from Boyden's math consultant, Mrs. Kelly, who taught us a game about the ways to make the number five. The class had a great time working with a partner and writing their own number sentences!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! I hope you check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!

A friendly reminder that gift donations for the Gift for Kids program are due this Monday, December 10th. Thank you so much in advance for your generosity!

Holiday Cards
The children had a fantastic time creating their own holiday cards for the annual Dedham Savings Bank holiday card making contest! We can't wait to find out who the lucky winners will be in a few weeks!

Curriculum

Literacy
We continued to talk about hibernation last week as we read the nonfiction text A Bed for the Winter by Karen Wallace. The children enjoyed the real photographs in this book and continued to build background knowledge about animals that hibernate. We also were introduced to the sight words he and for, and reviewed the letter "i". In Fundations we learned about the letters x and y.

Math
This week in math we continued to learn about number order and practiced sequencing numbers from 1 to 10! We also learned about number lines and how they can be used for counting. This class had a great time using our giant number line to practice their counting and sequencing skills!

We also had a blast making number giraffes! This fun craft activity was another way the students practiced their number writing and sequencing skills.

Sugar Cube Igloos!
Thank you SO much to everyone who so generously donated boxes of sugar cubes to our classroom. The class had a great time making their own 3-D igloos. It was a wonderful (and fun!) way to end our very busy week!

Thank you so much for taking a peek at our week! I hope you check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202! :)

Quiet Time towels were sent home on Friday for washing. Please have your child bring their clean blanket/towel back to school on Monday. Thank you so much!

Curriculum Update:

Fire Safety!
Before Thanksgiving we were excited to welcome the Walpole Firefighters to Boyden! They taught us some VERY important information about fire safety, including what to do if your clothing is on fire, as well as the number you should call in case of an emergency. The kindergarten classes really enjoyed their visit!

A BIG thanks so Mrs. Dacko who was brave enough to try on the firefigher's gear!

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the story Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson. This funny fantasy story about a hibernating bear was a great catalyst for learning real facts and information about animals that hibernate!

Last week in Literacy was also learned about the letter "c" and continued to practice the sight words we, my, and like. In Fundations we learned about the letters "v" and "w".

Math
In math we continued our exploration of numbers to ten and extended our understanding by practicing our sequencing skills. We had a great time applying our new learning of this concept as we completed fun, interactive math centers!

I hope everyone enjoyed taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in  Room 202!
