Happy Birthday!
Our class had a fantastic time celebrating the 115th birthday of the Teddy Bear last week! Wearing our jammies and snuggling with our furry friends was definitely a highlight of the day!

As a special treat, all of the Kindergarten classes got together to watch "Ira Sleeps Over", which is a story about a boy who is afraid to go to a sleepover without his beloved teddy bear!

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the book Animal Babies in the Grasslands by Jennifer Schofield. When reading this selection we discussed the question, "Where do animals live?" and also explored animal babies and their parents! We learned that a baby lion is called a cub, a baby kangaroo is called a joey, and a baby prairie dog is called a pup! We also learned about the sound that "P" makes and were introduced to THREE new sight words "we", "my" and "like". It sure was a busy week!

Math
In math we continued to explore numbers 1 to 10. We worked hard to deepen our understanding of the ten frame and how it can be used to show numbers,  and also completed the number books we have been working on for several weeks now. We will complete our exploration of numbers to 10 this week, and will begin learning about the numbers 10 to 20 after the Thanksgiving break!

Thanks SO much for stopping by to learn about all of the fun and exciting things happening in Room 202! I hope everyone has a wonderful week and a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Curriculum Updates:

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the story Armadillo's Orange by Jim Arnosky. This book helped us discuss the question, "Why is it important for animals to live in just the right habitat?". We also learned about the letter 'S' and continued to review the words "have" and "is"

The children had a great time looking for the letter 'S' in our classroom as they completed an activity we call "Write the Room".

Making our own snakes was a perfect activity for letter 'S' week!

Math
In math we are continuing to practice counting, writing, and representing numbers to 10! On Thursday, we had fun completing math centers which provided excellent practice with these skills.

At red table the students played number games on the Chrombooks

At orange table we practiced counting and ordering numbers 1-10 by completing a cut and glue activity.

At Mrs. Dacko's table the children continued to work on their number books.

At my table we reviewed ordinal numbers and used clues to sequence fall pictures.

I hope you enjoyed taking a peek at our week and learning about all that is new in Room 202! See you next time! :)

It was so wonderful to get the opportunity to chat with parents these past two weeks at conferences! While this round of meetings has come to a close, please do not hesitate to contact me anytime with questions or concerns regarding your child’s progress. I can be reached by telephone at extension 5406, by note or by email! Thank you!!!

Rest Time Towels
Rest time towels will be sent home on Thursday for washing. Please have your child bring their clean rest items back to school with them on Monday. Thank you so much!

Halloween!
Our week got off to an exciting start as the children in Room 202 had a SPOOKtacular time celebrating Halloween! A BIG 'thank you' to our Room Parents Mrs. Delaney, Mrs. Domineau, and Mrs. Travis for planning some very fun crafts and games for us!

Pumpkin Fun!
Math and science came together last week as the children had a great time participating in a pumpkin exploration!

As part of our investigation, the children predicted how many cubes tall our classroom pumpkin would be! We discovered that our pumpkin was exactly 12 cubes tall! We also learned that pumpkins will float when placed in water!

These kinder kiddos had a great time collecting and counting our pumpkin's seeds! We discovered that our pumpkin had 542 seeds altogether! That's A LOT of seeds! We also learned about the different parts of the pumpkin including the stem, skin, pulp, and fibrous strands! As a grand finale we carved our pumpkin. The students voted to give our pumpkin heart eyes, a square nose, and sharp pointy teeth!

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the book Life in the Ocean by Carol K. Lindeen. This book helped us discuss the question, "What is in an ocean environment?". We also learned about the letter A and were introduced to two new sight words "have" and "is".

Math
In math we continued to practice comparing and ordering numbers 0-5. We learned the new math vocabulary words more, fewer, same as, column, and row and also used a tool called a ten frame!

Terrific Technology!
The students below had a great time testing out Chromebook computers last week! The Kindergarten classes now have access to our own cart which houses a class set of Chromebook computers. We will use this new technology for whole group activities and small group learning during center time!

Thanks so much for stopping by to take a peek at our week! I hope you enjoyed reading about all that is new in Room 202! See you next time!
