Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Our class had a fantastic time celebrating St. Patrick's Day on Friday! One highlight was getting to enjoy a very special performance by dancers from Harney Academy of Irish Dance!

Curriculum Update:

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the story One Little Mouse by Dori Chaconasm, and discussed the question "What adventures can an animal have?". We also learned about words with beginning blends like spot, frog, and black, and were introduced to the sight words one, two, three, four, and five.

The children had a great time finding blends around our classroom and making their own blends during center time!

Math
We continued to learn about decomposing numbers in Topic 9 last week, and took a closer look at the ways to make the numbers 8 and 9! We also had a great time completing many St. Patrick's day themed math centers!

Thanks so much for stopping by to take a peek at our week!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! It sure seems like March is coming in like a lion with the snow that is predicted this week. Yikes! Let's hope the saying is true and it goes out like a lamb!

Rest Time Reminder
On Friday the children brought home their rest time towels/blankets for washing. Please return a fresh towel or blanket to school on Monday. Due to our limited storage space, I am also asking the students to bring only one small or medium sized lovie for rest time if possible. Thanks so much for your help and understanding!

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Spring parent/teacher conferences are starting this week and will take place on Thursday, March 16th from 6-8PM, Friday, March 17th from 1:30-3:30PM, and Wednesday, March 22nd from 6-8PM. Please use the conference scheduler on the Boyden website to make an appointment to discuss your child’s progress. Appointments are filling up fast, so make yours ASAP if you have not already done so! I look forward to meeting with everyone soon!

Field Trip
On Friday, May 26th the kindergarten classes will be attending a stage performance of 'Pete the Cat' at the Veteran's Memorial Auditorium in Providence, RI. The total cost of this trip will be $20.00 and includes admission to the performance as well as transportation. A detailed notice and permission slip were sent home with your child on Friday. Please return permission slips and payment to school no later than Friday, March 17th. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!

Curriculum Update:

Mr. Love Visits
We were very excited to welcome Mrs. Love back to our classroom last week! During her visit she focused on number writing and taught us some great number formation rhymes and stories! Forming our numbers correctly and making sure they are facing the right away are two skills we continue to focus on in class.

Literacy
Last week in literacy we read the story My Lucky Day by Keiko Kasza, and discussed the question, "What adventures can you have on a lucky day?". We also continued to review the sight words do, are, and that and also learned about the letter L!

Another highlight of our week was learning how to play "I Have, Who Has?". This is a great game as it can be played with many different skills and concepts we are learning about in class. Last week's game had us listening for letters in the alphabet!

Math
Last week in math we continued to decompose (break apart) numbers and learned all of the ways to make 6 and 7! We also practice writing the different ways using tricky number sentences which placed the sum and equals sign BEFORE the two numbers we were adding!

We also enjoyed completing ladybug themed math centers which tied in nicely since we were learning about the letter "L" in literacy!

Thanks so much for stopping by to take a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all that is new in Room 202!

A Peek At Our Week!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and was able to stay warm with the return of some VERY chilly weather! Please enjoy reading about what the students in Room 202 were up to last week!

Jump-a-Thon
Congratulations to Evelyn and Winnie who were our class representatives in the Jump-a-Thon which took place before February vacation! We are SO proud their tremendous effort. Great work Evie and Winnie!

A BIG congratulations to Mrs. Dacko as well! She won the coveted silver jump rope award for being the final jumper in the teacher competition. Great work Mrs. Dacko!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
One exciting highlight of our week was celebrating the birthday of  the iconic children's book author, Dr. Seuss! We had a great time reading many Dr. Seuss stories and practicing our rhyming skills in preparation for the big day. The children also enjoyed creating their own Dr. Seuss hats by writing rhyming words in each stripe!

We  had a great time answering the question, "Would you like green eggs and ham?". Our graph revealed that more friends would NOT like to give them a try!

Literacy
Last week in literacy we read the story Bunny Time by Rick Walton. While reading this story we discussed the question, "What adventures do you have throughout the day?". We also were introduced to the new sight words: do, are, and that, and practiced the sound of the letter "H".

H week was the perfect time to practice writing our home address!

Math
Last week in math we began Topic 9 which focuses on composing and decomposing numbers to 10. We had a great time finding all the ways to make the number 4 and 5, and are looking forward to continuing this work with the numbers 6 and 7 this week!

Crazy Hat and Hair Day!
What better way to end our very busy week than with CrAzY hat and hair day! I LOVED seeing all of the kiddos in their creative hats and hairdos! A BIG thank you to the Student Council for sponsoring this very fun event!

Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week!
