Curriculum Update

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the book See How We Grow by Katacha Diaz and discussed the question, "How do children change as they grow?". We also learned about the letter "K" and were introduced to the new sight words me, see, and look.

Our class had a great time reading the book King Bidgood's in the Bathtub, a story about a stubborn king who will not get out of the tub! After finishing the story the children enjoyed writing about what they would do if they were a king or queen!

Math
We continued to learn about addition last week in math! After reviewing the words "join" and "in all" the children were then introduced to the + and = symbols. To practice this new leaning, we used dice and white boards to write our own addition number sentences!

Reading Buddies
A VERY exciting part of our week was getting to meet our new Reading Buddies! On Friday afternoons we will now be getting together with Mrs. Davis and her class of super second graders to enjoy some fantastic stories! This is a wonderful opportunity for our kindergarten class to build relationships with some of Boyden's older students, while also providing us with yet another opportunity to enjoy quality literature!

GO PATS!
What better way to end our week then by getting ready to cheer on the PATS in the AFC Championship! We had a blast painting some very special signs to show our Patriots Pride. GO PATS!

Announcements:

Toy Request
A friendly reminder to please have your child keep their toys (Legos, figurines, pokemon cards, etc.) safe at home when they come to school each day. We have plenty of toys in the classroom for the children to play with during free choice time and indoor recess. Thanks so much for all of your help and support!

Pancake Breakfast Raffle
Congratulations to our friend Laher who won a very special raffle prize at the Pancake Breakfast last month! Laher (and Norah too!) got a ride to school in a police cruiser and were given an official escort to our classroom by two wonderful Walpole police officers! Thank you to the Wapole Police Department for this fantastic prize!

Curriculum Update:

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the story Little Quack by Lauren Thompson, and discussed the question, "What new things can you do as you grow and change?". We also learned about the letter "R" and continued to review the sight words "me", "she", and "with".

The children had a great time writing about and decorating their favorite duck from the story!

Math
We began Topic 7 in math last week which focuses on addition! In our first few lessons we discussed the meaning of the words "join" and "in all" and had a lot of fun showing these two words in action!

These teams had a blast joining their cube towers together and counting how many they had in all!

Learning with Mrs. Love
We were excited to welcome Mrs. Love back to our classroom this week as she taught us many new exercises to develop and strengthen our fine and gross motor skills! During this visit she had us stretching, pulling, rolling, and bending special tubing! We also enjoy when Mrs. Love comes to Room 202!

Thanks so much for stopping by to take a peek at our week! Please check back soon to see all we learn about and do in Room 202!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and has enjoyed the first few days of 2017!

Announcements

Winter Weather Has Arrived!
The snow is here! And with it, come the challenges of recess! Whenever possible, we WILL try to go OUTDOORS for recess. Children may play in the snow, providing they are dressed appropriately. To play in the snow, they MUST have boots, snow pants, mittens, warm coats and a hat or hood. If you have one to spare, reusable shopping bags are a great way for the children to bring all of their snow gear to and from school each day. Thank you for your understanding. Happy Winter!

Curriculum Update

Math
For the last several weeks the children have been learning all about teen numbers! We have learned that teen numbers start with a "1", and that all teen numbers have one group of ten and then "some more"! This week we will begin our next topic which introduces the students to addition! Our focus this week will center around stories about joining groups!

We had a great time using our knowledge about teen numbers to create these seasonal snow people!

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the book Little Panda by Joanne Ryder. This nonfiction text explored the life of Hua Mei, a panda living at the San Diego zoo in 1999. Not only did we read this exciting text, but we also enjoyed watching the Panda Cam which is available on the San Diego Zoo's website! Watch the pandas at home by clicking here!

The children had a great time making their own pandas to go along with our story of the week!

Last week we also learned three new sight words: me, she, and with, and explored the sound of the letter B!

Thanks so much for stopping by to take a peek at our week!
