A friendly reminder that Parent/Teacher Conferences begin this week! If you have not signed up to meet with me but would still like to schedule a time, please email me directly as the online scheduler is now closed. I'm looking forward to meeting with everyone and discussing your child's progress in Kindergarten!
Turkey in Disguise Project
On Friday your child brought home a fun family project, to disguise a Thanksgiving turkey! Please work together to make your child's turkey NOT look like a turkey (some great ideas were provided in the notice). Your child should return their decorated turkey to school by Friday, November 14th. Thank you! π¦
Fun Run/Bulldog Dash!
Our first ever Fun Run/Bulldog Dash was a HUGE success! The children did an amazing job on Friday as they ran, walked, and danced their hearts out! ππ§‘
A visit from Buddy before the big event! πΎ
Curriculum Update:
Into Reading
Last week we began Module 3 in our Into Reading curriculum! The theme of this unit is My Community Heroes, and last week we worked hard to answer the question: "What makes a community?". The books Places in my Community by Bobbie Kalman and Map My Neighborhood by Jennifer Boothroyd both helped us deepen our understanding of what a community is and why communities are important. Through our lessons we also revisited the genre of informational text, and identified the topic, central idea, and key details of a given stories. In phonics, the we learned about the letters p and f and practiced reading the sight/heart words of and for.
Math
In math last week the last began to explore the concept of "one more" and "one less". Mastering this concept will prepare the children to begin learning about addition and subtraction in the upcoming weeks.
The students above practice identifying the number that is "one more" while playing a fun roll and cover game.
Writing
In Writer's Workshop the class continues to practice labeling. On Friday we had fun coloring and labeling a picture of Buddy the Bulldog in honor of the Bulldog Dash!
Last week in Social Studies we began to learn about Veteran's Day! The class also made cards that will be passed out to veterans at Texas Roadhouse on Tuesday. Please feel free to send me any pictures you have of veterans you have in your family. I would love to share them with the class!
Thanks so much for taking a peek at our week! Please check back soon to watch us learn, grow, and play in the wonderful world of K! πππ
